Hi, i had brand new 36kw grant vortex utlility boiler installed 6 months ago. I noticed a few days ago it was leaking water. Plumber that installed it hasnt been out to me yet so i took the plate off.
There seems to be a serious amount of rust here!
Is this salvageable??
why is it rusting like this?

Six months old and rusted like that means it has been leaking for a good while, that much rust does not appear in a few days. The installer needs to come back out, that is absolutely on them and you should not be paying anyone else to sort it. Get it sorted quickly though, that sort of corrosion left running can wreck the heat exchanger and kill your warranty.

Hi Steven, thanks for the reply. Its extremely disappointing and frustrating to see all this rust. I only noticed water on the floor about a week ago.
I assume there should be no moisure at all here. why would there be a leak though? its a condensing boiler. And i would assume all this rust has to be cleaned off or replaced to be worthwhile?

Grant registered installer here.
The number of Grants we have installed goes into 4 figures never seen anything like that.
We never take condensate waste across boiler front always exit it through purpose made holes in left hand panel.
The condensate flexi looks at a strange angle maybe check it it connects properly on rear of secondary hex.
Assuming your installer is registered with Grant you have a 10 year warranty.

I know water in a boiler is acidic but that looks like something out of Alien Resurrection.

Unless, like my installer, he handed over the manual, without saying that there was a form inside that I had to send off to have a guarantee. When the oil pump gave up 10 months later, he just said 'Bad luck!".

yes it does not look good at all. will take a look at the condensate waste. when i disconnected it there seemed to be a good deal of condensate coming out once it got turned a certain way.
we have well water. would that have anything to do with it?

Also if the condensate hose is higher than the drain point at the back would that mean all the water is backfilling into the boiler potentially?

Just to point out what I'm sure everyone knows already; one of the installation (and later service) checks is to "Unscrew lid from condensate trap, and pour water down left hand turbulator tube, and check it comes out into the trap." It doesn't sound like this was done.

If you register the boiler yourself you get standard 2 year warranty.
If boiler registered by a Grant G1 registered installer that goes to 10 years.

Well water only makes a difference if it's a combi.
Grant then reduced warranty on plate to plate to 2 years.
If you got a lot of water out of the condensed flexi that's a problem.
Condensate should be in trap not pipe feeding it.

When I unscrewed the trap and flexed the hose down and out of the way I got alot of water coming from the flexi between the trap and boiler.

I suspect that's your problem the flexi when factory fitted has a clear fall from the connection onto the stainless steel hex to the trap.
Someone has rerouted it uphill so condensate remains in boiler it's certainly not as it left the factory.
I would get clear pictures of left hand side of boiler.
