Grass seed

No, early Autumn is fine. Cover the area with fleece - keeps birds from eating the seed and holds a bit of warmth and humidity which helps germination. Water gently if there's no rain.

Spread the seed before rain, it'll sprout. I didn't have problems with birds eating seed. Are you putting it on bare soil?

Add a little extra seed and don't plant to deep (lightly rate) or just roll it in. General fertilizer (with P and K in) will also help.
