gravelling car park area on top of landscape fabric

I want to gravel our small car parking area at the back of our house. The ground at the moment is fairly recently layed scalps (spelling?) which tends to get a bit muddy in wet weather and where the car stops there are a few indents in the ground. Is it better fill in the holes/indents and then lay down heavy duty(100g) landscaping fabric and then putting a layer of gravel on this or just to put the gravel straight onto the scalps. There is already a layer of fabric under the scalps.
The reason I was thinking of laying a second layer of landscaping fabric down under gravel was to try and disribute loading of the car over the area. Any advice welcome. Also what grade gravel is best.

wont work, its the soil underneath that is getting soft and sinking.

Landscaping fabric isn't going to offer any support for a car. You really need to have a good sub base before putting any decorative layer on top. Ideally 6" plus of compacted hardcore, depending upon soil etc etc, would give a sufficient base, then lay the fabric follwed by the gravel.

How deep are the scalpings and what sort of base did you lay them on?
