gripper rod gap?

P

Hi all
Probably been done before but can't find it in search so i'll ask anyway!
Is there a standard gap in the trade between the gripper rod and skirting boards? Have just redone the stairs and landing and want to get everything as prepared as i can before the fitters come in!
Whilst i'm here does anyone know the best way to make the join between a fitted door mat approx 1" thick and the new carpet? The previous owners used a standard threshold bar that never really did an adequate job' any suggestions would be apprecciated!
Cheers pete

Gripper gap - 2/3 the thickness of the carpet.
Door mat an inch thick / 25mm - have a wooden threshold made to size as a normal " square edge" bar is far to low and the edge of the mat will stick up about 12mm. The carpet can be fitted up to the threshold.
