Hi there,
Brief version: Is anyone familiar with 'Heritage' (by Solidoor) or 'Automatic locking' locks; do they allow for external entry, *while* key is in the lock on the inside- i.e., during the day this is effectively a thumb-latch equivalent that we can remove at night.
Longer version:
We need a new front door. Current is solid wood with many glass panels in top half. We have night latch and 5 -lever mortice deadlock.
With toddler, our night latch is too high for him to let himself out. We only have to shut the door and he's kept in. We don't have to remember to secure it-this is good.
Typical UPVC or GRP doors have a (low) handle that lets toddlers out unless you have deadlocked and removed the key- this is both a faff and not likely to be remembered by all (the family).
Solidoor do a Heritage lock that locks once door is shut. We can either have a thumb latch on inside or keyed both sides. Insurance is a problem with thumb-latch, I understand. Also means whole door is vulnerable to glass being broken...
So...
We can have a Heritage lock that is keyed both sides? Solidoor did note that this is not to best fire safety standards. That said, neither is our current 5 lever lock-if we don't leave the key in it. Given glazing, we have to remove key from lock at night.
We are interested in a GRP door- much cheaper than Solidoor.
We cannot find a GRP equivalent door with an automatic locking mechanism that is like a nightlatch. Does anyone know of such?
Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks,
