Hi
I need to replace a Grundfos alpha 25-60 pump. Its the circulation pump for the underfloor heating. It seems to be a rare pump and very expensive. Can I replace it with a similar pump, say the alpha 15-60?
Help appreciated, thanks

You could but don't expect your underfloor to work as well, there is a big difference in performance between the 2you mention hence the big difference in price.

How many square metres of under floor heating do you have ?

I'm also looking to replace exactly the same type pump, so if anybody has any suggestions please post as i'm at a dead end looking for a replacement.

I did speak with someone helpful at polyplumb. Grundfos were no help at all. The chap said the 25-60 was a European model and the UK replacement was the alpha + 15-60. That seems to have been replaced by the alpha 2L 15-60. I am hoping someone can confirm that pump will work.

Not according to Grundfos. The performance curves are identical for the Alpha2 15-60, 25-60 and 32-60. The only difference is the connection:

15-60 = 1 inch (130mm between ends)
25-60 = 1½ inch (130mm between ends)
32-60 = 2 inch (180mm between ends)

Specialuk: the pump is the grundfos alpha 25-60.

Mr W. the pump is grey/black

D-Hailsham: Connection sizes may be different? That would throw a spanner in the works!

What size is the pipe connected to the pump? If it is 22mm, you would be able to use the Alpha2 15-60, though the connectors will have to be changed to one inch.

I now see the problem, I had overlooked this. There is a Grundfos alpha2 L 25-60 pump (130mm). I have seen this on european sites so far. Will the alpha 2 L 25-60 be a direct replacement for my alpha 25-60?
Thanks

Probably not.The existing Alpha is 180mm long and the Alpha 2 is 130mm long. This means you will have to extend one of the pipes by 50mm.

The suggested replacement for the Alpha 25-60 is the Magna 25-60, but that's an hefty beast costing £5-700. It would be cheaper to change the valves, extend the pipe and fit an Alpha2 15-60.

What size are the pipes to your pump - you didn't say?

Hi
The existing alpha pump is 130mm not 180. The threads look 1.5" and its 22mm pipework.
I really want to get a replacement that doesn't need new pipework. Its all hefty brass stuff to the manifold and would need replacement sections.
The new alpha2 L is 199 Euro in France. I would just go with that if it will do the job. It looks like the electrical connector should fit and its variable flow so I am guessing all should work fine?
Thanks

Why are you looking in France? Is that where the house is? I've been looking at UK products!

Just checked Grundfos International Catalogue; the Alpha2 25-60 is the recommended replacement for the Alpha 25-60. The difference between the Alpha 2 and Alpha 2L is just a few bells and whistles; performance is identical.
