gurgling waste pipe

I noticed recently that when the water runs out of the bath or hand basin, the other plug (bath or basin) gurgles and even has water coming back out. I've checked the U bends to make sure that there is no blockages, but suspect something may be partially blocked futher down the pipe.

Does anyone have any handy tips how to remove partial blockages or how to find out where they are?

Fitting anti-syphon traps may be an answer.

Assuming you only get unwanted water out of the bath, and not the basin, you almost certainly have a blockage. sounds like waste is entering the pipe quicker than exiting it - check the drain for leaves if it's external. Otherwise try a plunger.

If the bath & basin wastes are joined somewhere it is possible to get water coming from the bath waste when emptying the basin, due to the basin being higher than the bath waste. If it happens the other way around you have a major blockage.
