can someone pease tell me the recommended spacing of gutter brackets

I would say no more than 900mm apart, but should sometimes be less e.g. snow affected areas.
 
agree with denso - before metricification you spaced them @ a yard max ;)

We space ours at 800mm centres as this works with a 4m length of gutter and falls right for the union.

For runs that are less than 4m we space them so that the gaps are even and not too cluttered.

You should always have a bracket close to an external corner.

We always clip our union brackets on last (after lining the regular brackets through) as these can effect the way the string line runs and almost always causes a dip at the union if you don't. Once you have clipped the union in place you can then eyeball it straight before fitting a screw.
