Had a carpet installed

Earlier today we had a carpet installed up the stairs and landing, in the hall we have wood flooring and when I laid the wood flooring I left the usual gap around the bottom of the stairs, I was expecting the carpet fitter to double over the bottom of the carpet (treble over if required) to hide the gap in the wood floor. Am I asking to much for here, I intend to call the carpet shop tomorrow he's basically fitted the carpet into the gap and it looks crap. We have loads of carpet left over so that wont be a reason.
