My mother-in law has just moved into a flat with many, many light bulbs, and not much time passes between one of them blowing and tripping the MCB, plunging the whole flat into darkness.
The consumer unit is in an awkward position high up in a cupboard, which is difficult for her to reset since she's getting on a bit.

Subject to satisafctory Zs, I was thinking about 'treating' her to a type C MCB.

The CU is Hager, about 15 years old. Would the current range of Hager MCBs fit it?

Will post a pic next time I'm round - should be there tomorrow to replace some bulbs...

@flameport

Great - thanks!

I did suggest CFLs, but she doesn't like "these new fangled bulbs, that they have nowadays". Even though they might save her money and be more convenient. She would need 15 of them, mainly at £4-odd each at SF.

(She has a hoard of 100W bayonet bulbs that, since she moved, fit nowhere! :rolleyes:)

Yes they will fit (that's one of the reasons I use Hager)

I think you should change the lamps to branded ones as cheap supermarket lamps can cause the MCB's to trip when the lamp goes

I would leave the MCB as it was for now and explore other avenues first
