My washing machine is only 6 months old and has stopped heating up. Would this be the heating element ?? i dont want to buy one if there could possibly be another reason

oops! meant 16 months old, not under guarentee
I dont know what you mean by reading but I know the water is not getting hot as washing comes out stone cold. I also checked when it is mid cycle and is running cold water through, as i felt the temp on glass door.
I have tried different cycles but this makes no difference.
