Stupid question but I am putting 5 gu10 (50w) spots on a 400w dimmer switch, should they be wired in series or parallel? does it really matter (apart from them all going off if one blows in series)?

If you wire them in series you'll get 1/5 of the output. Wire red to red to red etc. and ditto for neutral and earth.

Don't worry - if you put them in series none of them will ever blow.
