Recently I had installed two wall fittings. They are 40w halogen lamps (states on the fitting 40w max) with a dimmer switch on each. However there seems to be slight smoke coming from them after being left on for a short while. Any suggestions as to why this might be please?

Cheap Chinese manufactured tat? If there's smoke coming off the fitting then they need disconnecting and replacing...

its coming from the actual lamp. they were bought from b&q

It sounds like the lamps may be overheating the fitting.

Whatever the reason if the MI say it can accept 40W and it can't then you really need to either replace the fittings or use a lower wattage lamp which won't cause burining.

But i'd be inclined to return the fittings to B&Q.

Did you wear a glove when installing the lamp? Bare fingers can leave a trace of grease on the lamp, which will burn because the temperature in use is so high. That will shorten the lamp life too.

Thanks for your help. Just returned the fittings to b&q. The new ones dont seem to have the same problem.
