As far as I am aware, when using low voltage leds, they need their own led driver. I assume therefore that one cannot just swap a 500w halogen security light bulb and swap it with an led equivalent?

Do leds always need a low voltage supply? If so, how do mains supply 240v led bulbs work? Do they have their own mini driver (no pun on the actress intended) in each bulb?

I assume that is the case with standard edison or bayonet bulbs.

Am i also correct that you cannot just replace a 500w halogen secuity light with an LED equivalent? Most halogen secuity lights have a transformer don't they.

500w flood lights don't have transformers.

I'm not seen replacement LEDs for them.

You replace the whole flood light

It would seem you replace the whole fitting and it is claimed a 16W LED is equivalent but with commercial premises health and safety regulations would limit who could do the work plus insurance.

I assume commercial as building regulations require permission for any lamp over 150 watt.
