Handle/lock options for a solid outhouse door?

We've had this new door built out of 1" boards for our outhouse, with a new frame. Previously someone had fitted a cheap internal door which was falling apart and awful in every way except that it allowed a regular handle and lock to be fitted.

I prefer not to have a bolt and gate latch aesthetically and I'd like there to be some sort of latch so you can just push the door shut without locking - we sometimes leave this unlocked for parcels.
I'd assumed it would be trivial to sort something out but it's proving a bit trickier. I looked into rim locks but these seem to be designed for inward opening doors. Security isn't a big concern here but some sort of lock is needed in case someone just thought they'd come and look inside.

Any suggestions on how to achieve a)locking b)latching? My ideal solution would be a turning handle and a key but it doesn't have to be - I would just really like to avoid a bolt and padlock approach if possible.

The rim locks I've fitted are reversible so you can turn the strike around and fit to an outward opening door. Normally you would also fit hinge bolts:

Do you happen to have a recommendation for any you've bought? (locks I mean).

What about anything from the Gatemate stable of gate locks, lets be honest its a gate not a door

Not really. B&Q and Wickes sell a Yale one which would be my starting point. Others may have a better idea.

That one doesn't actually have a latch... this would actually be simpler as it's the latch which is the tricky part, but then I need a separate latch of some sort and I much prefer a handle and a door you can just push shut. I'll just have to do some digging, Screwfix have that handy Q&A feature or there's the "buy several take the ones back that you don't use" option :)

A nice low-sweat job for the hot weather rather than trimming 50m of 8m conifer hedge!!

Aha, looking on a more specialised site found things like this... problem solved I think I just need to check the key is long enough
