The wooden plinths in our kitchen were painted (sprayed) by the company who made the kitchen, but over time the action of a mop against them has rubbed off some of the paint back to bare wood. I'm going to get the paint colour matched, but was wondering on the best products for a matt finish. It does not look like there was any form of primer applied before spraying, so I suspect I'm looking at rubbing back to bare wood.

if you can bear to do it, swap them for laminated MDF.

plastic laminate, the same material as on kitchen worktops, is very hard wearing and will resist stains. It will not need painting and will last longer it takes you to refit the kitchen again.

you need to isolate the bottom edge from the floor so that it does not get wet from mopping, or spillages. there is a plastic strip for this, I can't remember the name. plinth strip, perhaps?
