If laying about 8 inches of Hardcore for driveway and compacting it down with one of those petrol powered compactors / whackers. Do you do all 8" in one go or do you do it in stages - is it best to soak it first ?

For a 'normal' whacker plate (50/60kg) it is recommended to do a few inches at a time.

Don't soak it, if it's dry it might benefit from a sprinkle of water.
If it's too wet, you might have to give up, as it can just all start turning to soup
