Really sorry to ask this question but I’m a complete novice J

I’m installing some artificial grass. So – I have digged out grass and soil, hardcored the area to a few inches, hired a compactor plate, but here is the question, how do I make sure the hardcore Is level, the area is on a slope so need more hardcore at one end. Do I need a sprit level, rope and pegs etc…

Any help would be appreciated.

You could use pegs, rope and a spirit level that hangs from the rope or you could use a long straight board and level. This would show up any hollows then you could rake any bumps into them.
As you have a slope already, and it is too steep to completely level, you would need to check the bubble in the level settles at roughly the same position each time or you may end up with undulations in the finish.
