Hardwire a mains under cabinet light?

Hi,

Is it generally considered bad practice to hard wire lights which have a mains plug? Can anyone explain (if so), why that is - and whether there's any way around it?

In particular, I was looking at the possibilities of hardwiring this

which you buy a cable with that comes with a plug. The LV one has its transformer built in.

There's no problems with doing that - as long as the cabling meets wiring regulations.

The fluorsecent version works with a "cord system" don't know what that is.
You may have to extend the cable if it is not long enough - this would invalidate the guarantee.

Dont buy Ikea lighting for this purpose. Look at the price, £35 odd for a single fluorescent light

This is far more suitable. People aren't going to actually see it, and its a helluva lot cheaper.

Dont use halogen over the worktops. Its not a working light and is dreadfully inefficient.
