kitchen lighting

Do you really want something which only lights up particular spots in the kitchen?

Yes, they will distribute the light into spots, under the light fitting. So you'll have two spots of light.

That is why they are called spot, or down lights.

You need light on the task areas (sink/worktop/etc) as well as general lighting for the room space.

Downlights are cr@p at doing that, and energy inefficient to..

Jim, two bullets on the IKEA page for these lights suggest that they're not really designed for such a purpose, more so for feature lighting:

- Concentrated light beam; good for highlighting a picture or other objects.
- Wide light beam; good for lighting part of a wall or bookcase.

I wouldn't install these into a kitchen, they're just not designed for lighting any sort of functional area.
