hi

we had a harveys water softner fitted 19 days ago and it has already eaten 4 blocks of salt! the fitter said it would probably use 2 blocks in the first 2-3 weeks and then 2 blocks every 4-5 weeks. salt costs money and we assumed it would cost us 2 blocks a month not 6 or more.

we are just a 'normal' house of 2 adults and 2 young kids so i dont see how we are using too much. yes we have a power shower but its only on 20 mins per day and we rarely bath. i cant believe the tanks and pipes in the house are that scaled up as the house is fairly new.

could there be something wrong with the softner - it was second hand but only a couple of years old and from a reputable source.

its non-electric and the salt is on a meter, is it possible to adjust the meter settings and perhaps ours has been set to clean itself too often?

thanks
