The mentality of the people responsible for running this country never ceases to amaze.

Quote from the article
'It has the added benefit of tackling unnecessary commuter journeys, one of the main causes of congestion,' he said

I have to travel 30 miles to work. Not so bl**dy unnecessary to me. I'm already being penalised by fuel tax and all the other taxes that they've cooked up to date. The people of Nottingham need to band together to boot this into touch. They'll get my support.

So have you got the same thing happening in Albania solo? 8)

Joking aside, I'm sick and tired of it. They'll be looking at a breathing tax next!

My wife used to work with a young lass (well, early 30's). Her husbands mother died and left the house to him. It's a nice house in a very nice area. His parents worked all their lives and obviously they paid taxes. They paid taxes when they bought the house. Anyway, when the lad inherited the house he had to take out a mortgage to pay the effing tax man for 'capital gains'! It really does boil my blood to think that when me and the wife go and we have the good fortune to have a house that we'd like our son to benefit from, that he would have to pay tax for the 'privilege' of us giving it to him! It just sticks in my throat to think that we (my wife and I), want our son to have an inheritance that WE have paid for out of our TAXED income and paid Stamp Duty (Tax) on and the tax man comes along and says 'Where's my cut?' 'YOUR CUT' for WHAT? Why the hell should he owe a single penny to the robbing bartenders?

I can feel the blood pressure going up and I've gotta stay calm so I better stop! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They'll be looking at a breathin ???????????g tax next!
happens in other countries like china

Things do have to be paid for, through the government, but when you see your elected/ not elected, taking the ****,??????/

Do you not have a tenants in common arrangement set up with your wife to mitigate your tax liability? Currently this means that there is a nil rate tax for the first £600,000. Have a look at this. Maybe your wife's colleague's parents did not have anything like this in place?

Why - to pay their salaries and expenses of course. Why are you so blind to this essential service?

seeing as you don't work and claim benefits what taxes do you pay?

another tax as it will still be cheaper and more convienient than using public transport

Some firms in Nottingham with large staff car parks are probably already working on their relocation plans.

I live in Nottingham and it sounds like a good idea to me. If it gets more cars off the road and people onto public transport and gets people to work 30 mins quicker and home 30 mins quicker then that's a good thing. Who wants to be stuck in traffic for an extra hour every day? The idea is to use the revenue for a new tram system.
When I was a kid there were three cars on our entire street - now there are three to every house.

Presumably because every house is now home to at least 3 Roma Gypsy families?

The trouble with all the Government tax related schemes is that an even bigger divide is created between the rich and the poor.

I would use my car irrespective of how much it cost because it suits me and I can afford to.

If we're not careful we'll end up back in the days of my youth where the majority lived in council houses and used public transport (me included) whilst the lucky few lived in nice posh houses and drove cars.

Not a social solution I prescribe to Joe and there has to be a better way IMO.

I agree that we should look to other alternatives than petrol/diesel driven vehicles but I really don't believe that enforced public transport is the answer. We should accept that individual transport is here to stay and look at innovative ways of making it work in conjunction with public transport systems where it is sensible and people will choose to use it.

sounds like a stupid scheme. If I owned a company with car park in nottingham, the first thing I'd be doing is seperating the car park as an indivdual company and property as a private annual permit car parking business. Job done.
What annoys me most about these and many of the other useless labour cons, is that I don't mind paying more and more tax, as long as the services get better and better. All that seems to happen, is we get taxed on everything to death with the promise that all the money will improve services, and yet all I see is pointless jobs being created, and everything has pretty got worse.

The real problem is that there is nearly always just one person in each car - and that is down to flexi time. No-one starts or finishes at the same time as anyone else so car sharing is a thing of the past. In Australia they have certain lanes that you can only use if you have a car load (I think they share the bus lanes). Why not use that idea here? Get the one car per person mentality out of society (or pay a large surcharge).
