Have an Icos HE 15 boiler. Approx 2+ years. Regularly serviced. Works OK on heating + hot water but has ignition problem when only providing hot water in summer. The boiler thermostat cuts in and out every 5-10 minutes as the temperature in hot water tank stabilises. Sometimes after being off for a few minutes the fan starts and boiler ignition starts but it ignites with a boom. Any suggestions on cause or cure??

Ignition probes, wrong inlet pressure, ignition generator, gas valve out of calibration, partially blocked condense or sump (also right side up towards flue manifold) Although if serviced PROPERLY most of these can be ruled out.

Check the Ignition Electrode is in good condition check gap (use a Pound Coin to set the spark gap, if OK would suggest that the burner is dirty and should be stripped and blown out with compressed air by a RGI

Earlier Models had a problem with the lining of the combustion box dropping on top of the heat exchanger Ideal did a mod for this, I think you would be unlucky to be suffering from this problem now :)

I dont think that anyone should be advising a homeowner to do his own gas appliance repairs.

Particularly not to the gas train components.
