HEADER TANK OVER FLOWING

My central heating header tank over flow wont stop over flowing .I have checked the ball valve and that seems ok but the water level wont drop below the outlet .It varies from a annoying drip to a steady flow
When I mentioned to a lad at work and said the water was particularly filthy he said that that could be part of if not even the whole reason its happening and he suggested I need to drain and flush the system and that it could be the gasses in the system that is forcing the water out.
Can anyone confirm or deny it please ? Need to sort it as its splashing the conservatory roof and kitchen windows and "our lass " is not best pleased

Set the water level correctly to 4 inches.

Sorry but I dont know if that was a serious suggestion or some kind of in joke ,if its the former how do i do that ,if its the latter it was lost on me

There are many reasons why this is happening:

1. Coil in cylinder gone so waters are mixing between the hot water and heating water.

2. Blockage in heating system.

3. Ball valve

And so on ..

Suggest you get out a decent engineer buddy

I am beginning to think that way but wouldnt No.1 be obvious i.e the hot water being discoloured in some way and for No. 2 wouldnt the flushing of the system I was proposing sort that out .

Is there a quick fix with the water level in the header that I can do until I can sort out a professional

IF its the coil then the bigger pressure is in the hot water side as its a bigger volume of water ..


You can bail out the tank so its @ 4inches above outlet and make sure the ball valve is set at the right hight..

Yes a flush would help ..

Bailed out a good half a bucket full to get it down to what I assume is the 4" level mark on either side of the tank and set the ball valve down to it will see how it goes ,as I say the water is filthy so a flush out is probably needed any way but hopefully this will save the window frames and conservatory roof
