oh crikey....how about I ask my boss about taking some time off on Friday? I take it you won't be wearing your Santa's suit? :)

if I syphon out the water with a jug! will the tank fill up with clean water?

Tie the ball valve stem up with some string (use a length of thin timber or similar laid across the tank top) as you are baling the thing out.
When you are finished, release the ball valve and the tank should refill with fresh water.

oh wow, sounds so simple.....will let you know how I get on :) Thank you so much for the advice.....

It'll be fine...ideally this tank should have about 4" of water in it, and we adjust the valve accordingly to achieve this.
Be lucky - Boris the spider will be watching...... :p
John :)

spider.....gosh I hope not..... to be honest I don't normally like lifting the lid, just in case there is something inside the tank, you read about dead pigeons birds etc...

still waiting for a guy in Surrey to respond to me regarding coming to look at the tank for me :( Still wiaitng.......patiently. He obviously doesn't want the work  But I will try to syphon out the orange water on Saturday  but still need the leak looking at.

Thank you for asking very kind person :)

he asked for my home telephone number yesterday and I have heard nothing since. I previously asked him if he would come and look at the tank for me.....and heard not a peep. :(

When (if) he does appear, he'll appreciate the tank being cleaned out, certainly.
Is there evidence of weeping joints around the tank base? Often there are white crusty deposits where the bother is.
John :)
(Did a 30 mile round trip today to fix a (heavily) dripping bath tap......good job I'm not relying on things like that to keep the bailiff from the door) :D

If it's someone on here and you only gave your number last night then he is more likely still at work and hasn't picked up the message yet.

Be patient see if he replys later on.
This time of yr is busy and most are not sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. ;)

I am sure that is true.....my situation is not desperate, so I can wait. Need to check the tank to see if it's been leaking again......always something! :)
