Hi

I have a Gainsborough 850E Electric shower and it seems the heat exchanger has died. It's this shower ... http://www.showerdoc.com/gainsborough-850e-1999-shower-spares

so I ordered a part and it arrived but it's a bit different. This is what I ordered....

http://www.showerdoc.com/gainsborough-heat-exchanger-8-5kw-95608611 see the photo on that page.

It's about an inch shorter than the old one and has fewer connections on top. The old one has three individual connectors where the new one has the two that are bent over on top. Where the new one has two "posts" joined together the old one has an extra post joined the other two, I can't get a good picture of the connectors so I've done a diagram.

(A) has two white wires to it, (B) & (C) have I think one or maybe two red wires going to each. (Can't look right now, someone's in the bath!!!)

Is this part I've been send compatible with the existing one? If so how should I wire it?

This page gives a wiring diagram for my shower ... http://www.partsarena.co.uk/baxi/System/DATA/Dx/DS1/installation/2862/i48-2862/i48-2862.htm

This Amazon page http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gainsborough-Heat-Exchanger-8-5kw-95608611/dp/B00767JX0I shows what I got as being a replacement for the heat exchangers in lots of other showers as well as mine.

The big question, how do I wire it up?

All advice gratefully received.

Hmmm, yeah, I'm coming to that conclusion, I was just hoping for an easy fix and not mess with pipework etc.

The Gainsborough website says the best replacement is an 8.5 se (for replacing an 8.5 e, not clear if an 8.5 e is the same as an 850 e though)

Any idea what is a good retro-fit replacement for an 850 e?
