Please help! my heater in my university room is making a high pitched ringing type sound when on or off, which sounds like a kettle hissing as its starts to boil cold water. what could it be and what should I do about it. any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. thanks.

(make of radiator unknown)
(radiator itself is heating properly when turned on. heat is spread uniformly across the whole surface of the radiator so there are no cold spots)

the sound remains even when its off and the landlord alerted. just wanted to know if its a problem that can be fixed easily in a single radiator linked to a large system.

must say if you have it turned off at the electricty iand its still doing it I have no idea

you have isolated turned it off havent you?

nono it part of the whole buildings central heating (im in one room of a cluster flat). i meant ive turned the thermostat to zero, and the sound is still there.

mmm no idea the pump could be running due to overheat

sorry get on to the landlord and DONT touch it.

kool, thanks for your time, but one other thing, could the pipes be scaled up? ive heard that this can cuse a similar sound.
