I had an old Ideal Classic RS40 which was struggling to heat the house so I went for a new 'A' rated Potterton Gold 18H heat only as I have a storage tank.
Ok heres where the problems started, when the new boiler was fitted everything was cold to start off so it all worked fine the radiators get hotter than they ever have. So the plumber cleaned up and left.
It was only when the heating was due to come on that evening that noticed the problem, I always have my CH timer set for hot water and heating so to always have hot water on tap with having young kids in the house for bath times. Anyway my timer was showing the normal on lights for CH and HW but the radiators where cold and no amount of turning up the room stat would make it come on. I had no airlocks and the pump was running normally. Anyway to cut a long story short I figured out a work around, If I removed the clip on tank stat from the tank the heating came on!! so it looks like the boiler was running off the tank stat rather than the room stat. with the tank stat removed the room stat works?? But the hot water gets too hot!!
My question is Why? is something wired wrong in my system? has my 3 port valve seized up or failed? and why did it work ok with the old boiler?
My reasoning is it the wiring was never right even with the old boiler but it never got hot enough to trip the tank stat therefore it used to just chug away. Who knows!!
And suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You cold have a seized valve or the installer has guffed the wiring.

If the latter then get him back under warranty.

If the former then get him back and pay him to change the valve.

Things fail, and if it is the original valve then it could be a coincidence. Mind you. It is a little daft changing a boiler and not changing knackered old controls.

Unless of course the job was done on a shoestring.

Thanks for the reply Dan, don't think he guffed the wiring as he only had to wire the LNE in to the new boiler that was disconnected from the old one, don't think you could mess that up lol...

Sounds to me like this was a pre-existing problem with the old boiler, and you've thrown a new boiler at it without bothering to diagnose the real reason why your house isn't as warm as it should be.....
