Had a heavy cabinet door with mirror to hang back on. Someone had put bolts with nylonc threads to hold them on. I decided to stick with that and add extra bolts with ones missing readjust position so the hinges matched had to butcher the holes with metal bit to get bolts through. It went back on but would a repair plate have been better ?

Yes but no need to change it now the carcass is butchered.
You could smarten it up by replacing the nylocs with dome head nuts and adding an end panel to the wardrobe.

Dome heads - ill look them up, stay in place? Could do with a selection of bolts varying sizes and lengths and nyloc nuts. Would've helped on this job.

What's the difference between these two hinges?

One opens further than the other, and is more expensive.

You can use a non permanent thread locker to keep a dome nut in place.

Or you can drill out the butchered hole, and glue in a piece of hardwood dowel, then screw normally into that, but I wouldn't try that without an extra side panel, as you'll be able to use a longer screw and go into that as well.
But ignoring all that, repair plates are less than £2 each and would save all the faff.

When do you use the hinges which open wider?

The larger Blum hinges will open to about 170 degrees, the smaller ones to about 92 degrees. The 170s are ideal if you have pull out drawers (or similar). A 92 hinge will require the drawers to be less wide.
