I spoke to dinbat a few days ago and i am trying to wire a 2 gang switch. The reason i am confused is that my new switch is labelled like this:

L Sw ~

And i dont know what these mean or match up with L1 , L2 and Common.

HELLLLLLLLLLP again if your there DINGBAT!!!!

From what I can gather from different posts this is not a normal dimmer switch. My advice unless you want to start changing the wiring is to take it back to the store and swop it for a bog standard 2way dimmer switch.

This sounds as though it's one of those funny ones from Homebase where the ~ symbol represents the connection from a momentary or retractive switch that when 240v is switched to it (momentary) it will bring that dimmer into circuit.

As spark 123 says, take it back and buy a standard dimmer switch, which will have L1 L2 and L3 or common L2 & L2 connections that you will be able to follow.
