Help: doors

I have several interior hollow doors that have holes in them. There is no way that i can afford to replace them + joinery fees. Therefore, I have thought of filling the holes and painting the doors white. Can anyone advise me of how best to go about this and what kind of filler to use as some of the holes are big? Also, would eggshell paint be best?

How large are the big holes? it may cost you more in filler than buying a new door, Wickes do a standard hollow door for about £15. As the doors are in constant use there is a chance that the filler will fall out when the door is slammed shut.

For a large hole, make it as square as possible, cut another square from ply that is larger than the hole but will fit through diagonally, drill a hole though the middle of this piece and attach a piece of string apply some glue around the edge, feed through the hold and use the string to pull it tight against the inside of the door. When the glue has set you can then use wood filler of car body filler to bring the dip flush with the rest of the door.

You could go for the panelled look and put some ply sheet over the top and then put some beading around it. This needs all of the holes to be in roughly the same place, but again it may cost as much in ply and beading as a new door.

you can fill the holes with fiberglass type filler and sand when dry.you will also need to put something behind hole to hold the filler till it dries I personaly think its cheaper to buy new doors.
