Just purchased a house with this unit installed. Is anyone able to help identify?

its a J&S johnson and starley but the filter is missing, the bottom front panel comes off and there should be a label on the inside telling you which model it is, its a very old unit and I would advise you to have it checked over before you use it, by an experienced engineer

This is good advise as them vents are open/closable. So probably plenty of other things wrong with that also! Definitely worth getting it checked.

Thanks for your replies lots of help already.

Sorry should have slowed down and read your reply better. Im not currently in the property won't be until completion  to check the model.

Im assuming the filter should be where the big black hole is on the bottom right?

Cgas - why would the vents being open/closable cause issues?

No the filter fits in the long hole about middle of your unit, it filters air being drawn from the house to be heated and then recirculated but they clog up like mad and someone has taken it out to clean it and never put it back in , they were prone to tearing they were just a fine wire mesh and when customers were cleaning them by themselves they tended to be heavy handed and tear the mesh, as Warrell has correctly advised there are direct replacements available but not everyones cup of tea, i personally like them but they can be bad if you have smokers in the house and they can aggravate breathing conditions such as asthma, I certainly wouldnt be using that unit till it was checked out , good chance that the flue will be asbestos as well

That might be a replacement, but why are you considering a second hand unit of unknown origin to replace a unit in a house you haven't even moved in to yet and know nothing about?
In any event, buying second hand gas appliances on ebay is never a good idea.

The vents problem is because this is an open flue appliance which draws air for combustion from the room - if the vent is blocked or inadequate, it circulates toxic gases throughout the building and kills everyone inside.

May be I am missing something, but I could not see a vent, closeable or not?

However,:

1: don't buy a 2nd WAU frome fleabay
2: Get any open flued appliance checked before useing

That vent as you call it is part of the warm air system.;)

That looks older than an m31, they are still current. Perhaps it's a very old version. I think the brown panel is your filter rather than a hole. Close able vent can be dangerous if combustion air is provided by a vent on the heating duct in the loft though I suspect you will have a wall vent in the kitchen.

That is a Myson/Thorn warm air unit. Probably 30-40 model.

The filter is there in place.

What looks like a hole on the bottom right is the access to the water heater
control.

Johnson & Starley will have the the installation/Service manual for these.

They will also be able to supply any spares that are still available.

J & S will also be able to advise on direct replacement units for these.
