We have old stairs at home which I will be sanding down and varnishing.

After spending a fair amount of time checking different products I have created a list of products, which I think are good, but I wanted to see if any of you had any experience with several to compare.

Our first requirement is hard-wearing, offering a good protection with a nice non slip finish.

Second is drying time and low VOC, but those are secondary if product is exceptional in the first requirement.

My list of suggested products is as follows:

Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish – 2h drying time and low VOC, but I don’t know how durable it is

Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish – I have used Ronseal white diamond hard paint and found it very durable, but I’m not sure how it sits with other products listed here..

Bona Traffic HD – seems great, bit expensive, but I am not convinced to water-based products being as tough as solvent-based

Sadolin PV67 Heavy Duty Varnish – this one seems to be a suggested product

Liberon High Resistance Floor Varnish – have used this product and it’s great (Liberon claim 60% hardness of glass), but has a longer drying time (6h) and high VOC,.

Any suggestions are welcome, especially if you have experience in several products to compare the quality
