Don`t know hugely about your boiler, never worked on one, combi or whatever but if you have a cylinder in your airing cupboard , there is a possibility that the coil in your cylinder is split mixing the central heating water with your hot water, thereby introducing your heating system water (which will be black & dirty), to your hot water taps. Worth looking at.Which would indicate a new cylinder.

  Sorry me being a dick & everything  :oops:didn`t read all ; post properly, that`ll give all the boys a laugh eh?

Don't panic trainee, he could still have a cylinder as well, actually quite common to run the kitchen off a combi and the rest of the house with a cylinder.

HOT THE WATER COMES OUT BLACK AND SMELLING METALLY
Sounds like plate heat exchanger
Whats the pressure at :?: Is it strangely higher than what you set it to :?:
Can you pick the black bits out of a bowl full of water with a magnet?

How long has it been fitted :?: .... If less than a year the number for ravenheat is 0113 252 7007 and you will have to give them the serial number which means undoing the 2 screws at the top and taking the cover off. There is a sticker facing u on the left hand side of the casing about 8 inches up on the left and a data plate on the bottom right that faces to the left. Both markers are at the back and difficult to see so you may need a torch.

Your diaphragm has perished in the diverter valve. The bits of black are actually bits of black rubber, and is very common on the inter albion/giannoni diverter valves as used on this boiler and some others. You can get a service kit for £20 with the hot water diaphragm in it, however, they are very awkward to change on this particular boiler as the mentioned part is right at the back of the boiler and the screws are not facing you. A socket set/offset screwdriver is needed and there are ten small pozi drive screws on the diverter valve head, which are very annoying to get to. Also there is a half inch union with fibre washer to crack open, all in all about an hours work, but the part will only cost £20. To remove the part in situe easily, the right hand side panel of the boiler must be removed. The diverter valve can be removed completely, and may seem quicker, but you will have endless leaks afterwards, so changing the diaphragm in situe is the most patience testing, but the best option all round in my opinion. And you only have to isolate the cold water to the boiler (or main stop tap) to change the mentioned part
