Hi there

I have what I believe is an unvented central heating susytem and have a problem with the boiler as I noticed water dripping from the ceiling this morning.

I have a megaflo water heater. Basically the plastic recepticle connected outside the heater (what i believe is called the Tundish) was full of water when I looked this morning and it was the overflow from here that was causing the water leak. On looking at the manual I believe this just feeds a discharge pipe and vents outside the house somewhere. Is it just a simple case of that there is a blockage somewhere in this pipe that drops down from the tundish or could it be something more serious?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It's probably been dripping for some time (weeks maybe) and you've just not noticed. The reason it is now overflowing is almost certainly that the outlet outside your house has frozen and filled with ice, causing it to back up. Use a blowtorch or similar to defrost, then follow the instructions on the side of the cylinder for recharging the air gap
