I know a little about electrics and I just need a little help finishing off my current DIY job. :)

I'm currently replacing the ceiling as well as the lighting in our dinning room.

I have removed the old down lights which where connected to a small white junction box.

From this junction box are two Grey cables, 1 i guessed would be to the light switch.

I have purchased a pendant light fitting & 3 core cable to connect it to the junction box.

Ive connected the pendant up by following the instructions included but I have a slight problem.

When I switched the power back on the light doesn't go off???

Ive removed the cover to the switch and there is a white cable going to it not gray???

We have recently bought the house and the lighting never worked in here so I dont know if the switch actually works or its even connected the the light in this room.

what would be my next step?

How would I go about adding a new light switch to my new pendant? do I work from the Ceiling rose or the junction box?

ANY help would be great thanks.

Sounds to me that you have connected the live feed to the live terminals rather than to the LOOP.

Try switching the lives round this will hopefully solve your problem.

You have probably mixed up feed live witt the switch live.

Not to sure about the junction box. Without pics it is guess work
