Hello. i'm new to these forums. I have a questions regarding the electrics in my kitchen. I'm in the process of pulling out the old and discovered that the boiler is fed from the cooker spur (via SSO). Its fed by an old fused 6 circuit CU. The thing is i don't want to call a man in to sort the boiler as I feel i may be done for the cost of a new CU. Am I still allowed to take a spur off of a socket on the ring main out to a SFCU in the boiler room? As a punter without any papers, what can and what can't I do? Thanks in advance. Tom.

twje, please take this advice, you will not regret it.

You seem adamant that you do not need a new fuse box, but the current one is well out of date and will NEED replacing soon. It conforms to regulations that lapsed about 25 years ago. It is likely your wiring is at least this old. This is a bad thing.

When you say you are replacing the kitchen, it indicates that the house is in a state of transition. Please rewire now, while decor doesnt matter, and while the floorboards are accessible. If you leave it and find later that you do have a serious wiring fault, you will be kicking yourself that all your new decor has to be damaged.

You at least need a new fuse box. Please ask an electrician to inspect your wiring.
