Help! New radiator install

hi guys,

I need to install a vertical radiator to this pipework that someone else installed.

Any advice on the best way to do this to make it look tidy.

You will need to get a rad that is sized correctly, to connect the tails to, pipes a bit messy but easy enough to connect to.

Hang the radiator
Use and fit quality in line valves / TRV to rad.
Cut plasterboard (if necessary) so the pipes come put of the wall directly behind valves.
Ideally, cut the plastic so copper exits wall

I recall that when plastic first came out, t was de rigueur that no plastic was visible. Unfortunately, money and time rules, so we get crap like your picture as standard in (even really expensive) new builds

is that a 10 to 15 or a 15 to 22 conversion going on in that pic. If it was me I would put 90 deg elbows including inserts on the pipe as near as poss to the wall and push them into the wall so you can bring the pipes out nice and straight in either copper or plastic. You could start bashing out the board to bring the pipes up but will it really look any better? Its worth noting that you can get rad valves that are angled and straight through.

read the install instructions closely for your vertical rad as lots are single orientated unlike the rad that was removed and the flow must go to the correct side as vertical ones some have a distribution baffle

lots of the vertical radiators can only have the direction of the flow from the boiler going one way , they have distribution baffles in them that sends the hot water to the top of the radiator , you need to check the install instructions of your new vertical radiator , they usually have a sticker on the connections saying flow, it is also possible to fit them upside down

Never knew that. That's one of them things you could easily miss and I bet I have in the past. Thanks mate.

Apologies for the double post but i couldnt seem to find the old one!

He wall is brick and plaster so not much movement with the pipes other than chipping some plaster out.

My concern is the mess after chipping out and how to conceal it
