HI all, this is my first time here so really hope somebody can help me out with this..

i've got a trianco redfyre oil burner (pics below) but it seems to keep tripping the primary switch and cutting out... i've tested the oil supply which is ok and primed the oil supply (no air present). I'm hoping the pilot light has gone out but i've absolutely no idea where to check for it.. is on the body of the burner itself?? any help would be greatly appreciated...

Do you mean it's going to lockout ? If it's a pressure jet burner there is no pilot. It light's everytime it fire's from the spark at the electrodes.

What exactly do you mean by "the primary switch" ?

im not certaint wht type of oil burner it is,but ive removed the two screws from the front cover plate and i can clearly see the igintion occuring at the very back, but 10 seconds into it the lockout red light switch kicks in cutting the power. Reading various articles it sounds as tho the photocell may need replacing... Does anybody know is this is an easy job and where the photo cell is located??? I have a pic of theburner which i could post onhere but imnot sure if its possible to include imageS???

Sorry, you've already said there is oil.Is the motor running ?If it is you will need to get the pump pressure checked and the solenoid checked. The spark could even be weak due to faulty leads or electrodes as well as a couple of other possiblities.

the motor is running but its hard to see whethr there is actually a flame. u can clearly see the spark. ill try it again when its darker..is it difficult to remove the burner from the cabinet??

If you can see a spark you would see the flame for sure.It is not too hard to remove the burner but i would recommend you call in a professional. If you do decide to proceed make sure you electrically isolate the burner. Don't put yourself at risk.

Sounds like you have an "Inter" burner made by EOGB. If you take the plate off, the chances are it may not light anyway. There are half-a-dozen things that can cause your problem, one of which is the solenoid coil. If you know what that is, you will be able to check it to see it is about 2.7kohm.
