We live in an old house and until I upgraded the boiler and hot water cylinder we essentially had no domestic hot water in the summer (old gravity system with a knackered programmer that only worked the heating, so we were ok in the winter) - we had an electric shower and dishwasher - to be honest we just about managed without it - but surprisingly, the pilot light on the boiler used to raise the temperature a bit so it was luke warm, rather than cold.
If renting, an electric heating and hot water system could affect the EPC.
