Help Please ! Ravenheat CSI 85 combi

The makers MI show it as in the drawing above but dopnmt even mention that its the fan mod PCB!

Its onllt when yuo repairs boilers that you get to know what the parts are otherwise you cannot do most repairs!

why make it sound nearly impossible to do boiler breakdowns! I know of a few people who do them and they are certainly no Stephewn Hawkins IQ level!!

In order to diagnose boiler faults correctly it is necessary to know how it works and that includes knowing what the components are.

In addition the correct operation parameters, voltages, rotation speeds, gas pressures etc. are required to enable a boiler engineer to assess what a malfunction is.

Certainly there are some chancers who look for a stuck fan or pump, or any obvious visual cause. They are the ones who replace parts without knowing what effect that will have. When they have changed £400 of parts they give up and say a new boiler is needed.

Would you go to a butcher if you needed a replacement hip?

Agile I agree with you, but to test parts on a boiler faults can be find, also knowing the components the boiler has it's operating sequence etc - pumps and fans can stick / wear out btw!!

for eg if a boiler was not sparking but the fan was running as a check you'd go for fan speed, air pressure switch, checking igniter unit, HT lead, electrode, gas pressure(s), pcb etc etc

Are there really a lot of people out there who just change parts without testing and hope?!.....

.

Just read the general forum and see how many parts are changed uneccessarily.

Not just by DIYers either, but by staff engineers from BG and the manufacturers and Homeserve!

Got called to a fault on this make of bolier last week. Boiler can work fine for hrs on heating and water and then next day won't work at all.. Ravenheat recently have changed PCB board and flame sensing electrode but intermittent stop start fault persists. Boiler will light run for a while then just stop, gather it's thoughts then start again. Could it be a problem with air pressure switch or fan runing at incorrect speed/sticking ? I rang ravenheat but as boiler was not in fault at the time there wasn't much they could suggest, any thoughts would be much appreciated
