We moved into our house a week before the first lockdown.
we had a mid range survey done which looking at it now as far as the roof is concerned was a waste of time!! As it says the main roof could not be seen or inspected from ground level!!!

We have rain coming through the ceiling and need to have at least one if not two lead valleys replaced or repaired and a flat box gutter section repaired/replaced.

Can someone advise the most economical way to do this please, do we need to use lead or is there a cheaper alternative?

Also is there an organisation that roofers belong to so we can be sure we are getting a good roofer?

we have been given a quote but it seems very high to us and will use all our money. But we have no way of knowing what is or isn’t reasonable!!!

As above but ask for pics when the roofer quotes. Some modern roofers supply before and after pics.
Why not post the pics and quotes on here.
When correctly installed GRP Valley Troughs are better than lead.

NFRC's for what they are worth.

How come the Surveyor missed the damp ceiling signs inside the house?

If your roof is tiled it'll be cheaper and quicker sorting the valleys etc than if its slated (no nails to rip out).
There'll be a chunk for access (£500 plus for scaff, might need traffic management as well if you're straight onto the pavement) and some labour and a bit of materials.
No idea where you are, up here in the NE a standard terrace reroof is about £2500- thats new mock slate or tile, battens, felt, bonding gutters and flashings.
