Hello - I just fitted my lovely neighbours with a new combi-boiler system (as they were using a tank in the roof and I am about to build a mansard roof)

Anyhow combi went in - and I guess cos of the increased water pressure of the water coming off the mains - a semi leaking shower started to 'pour' water out - that's now been replaced.

The biggest problem is there is still (even tho the plumber fitted a hammer and turned the pressure down a bit) a MASSIVE pipe banging that runs up the whole house when they turn off their sink or bath taps

Apparently this is cos they have three quarter taps that shut off the water very quickly.

Please can someone HELP.

I feel awful that a) I spent a lot of money fitting the system for my very kind neighbours and it has just been problems all the way.

Is there anything else to do to negate this banging?
Should I pay to change their taps? Would that make any difference?

Many thanks.

loose pipework, pipes not clipped, air in pipe ( deadleg ) high main pressure can cause banging noise.

A pressure reducer valve will help your problem, it reduce the main pressure but give same flow rate.

Was the combi fitted by a corgi? He should solve the problem?

Dan thanks for reply. yes he's corgi and it's def not air but the backlash of the water when the tap is shut off.
He did fit a 'hammer' ? perhaps that's the same as the value you mention but it didn't help... And as the pipes run inside the walls not sure how he could clip?

Many thanks again.

i presume pipes are inside stud wall you could locate pipe run approx then minor hole trough plasterboard & squirt expanding foam every 800mm approx when it expands & sets will hold pipes from flexing

thank you to those who have replied so far - for your knowledge and thoughts. Just want to clarify my neighbours were using (happily) a heating boiler and a cylinder tank for the hot water that came from a tank in the roof. I fitted them with a combi boiler - with the water now coming from the mains. - since then the slightly leaking shower - flooded the wall and we have fitted a new wall mounted unit. The pipes now bang when they never had before. They bang when they turn off their taps in the bathroom sink or bath tub. Apparently cos they have 3/4 taps that shut the water off quickly and the new (increased) pressure from the mains - is causing the banging. Still happening and now the new shower has no water - it's all a very very bad dream...
