I'm looking to swap a standard double rocker light switch for a double dimmer - controling a ceiling light and wall lights (one switch in the room). I've assummed the wiring for the dimmer would be the same as the existing switch but on trying nothing works. I've realised one thing that may be causing the problem - I've purchased in error a 2 gang, 2 way dimmer switch.

For info, we had a spark in to fit new fuse boxes and they thought the wire throughout the house was 'different'. Anyway, pics below of existing wiring for the rocker switches and the dimmer (pic. with red background).

Any guidance welcome.

It doesn't matter that it's 2 way (most switches are now) it can still be used.
Have you tried Permament Live (probably brown) in L1 & Switch Live (probably blue) in COM (wavy line) leaving L2 empty?

Edited to erase stupidity....

Have you tried Live in COM & Neutral in L1 leaving L2 empty?

Not a good idea to connect a switch like that

Put brown in L1 and blue in the wavy line terminal.
use the Brown and blue in the same cable
Repeat with the other switch

There is no Neutral at your switch

a 2 gang 2 way dimmer is fine.
did it come with a wiring diagram?
usually brown is perm live
and blue (sleeved with brown) goes to the light.
