Help Required..

Fitted a new consumer unit for a friend (Additional one in the garage) - Nothing connected to it.. IE No circuits in.

Have fitted a 60A Switch Fuse and meter tails to Henley. new tails ready for adding the meter.

REC wont connect it without a test and supply certificate.

Exactly what Information would they like??

I have the following calibrated equiptment..

Earth Loop.
Insulation Tester (Megger)
Fluke 4 digit Multimeter (V Accurate.. and expensive)

Have access to a RCD Tester.

But im at a bit of a loss as to what they are wanting, (I didnt speak to them)

They'll probably want a completed electrical installation certificate as found in the OSG, BS7671, Approved Document P or on the IEE website.

They may want one with either the ECA, NICEIC or NAPIT logo and membership number on (although I think I am correct in saying that they aren't required by law to ask for membership/logo).

If you have a copy of guidance note 3 and know how to use your tools and fill in the certificate, I'd say go for it, else have a word with a friendly spark.

Either way, this does mean that you'll need to complete, inspect and test the installation before they will connect it up.

Or just bung in a 16A MCB and mount a single socket next to the CU, then write the certificate for that installation

Im confused, as the one I would expect them to be interested in is Earth Loop Impediance, which I cannot do without a connection.

Have asked my dad to enquire why (He works for them).. another form I saw asked for NICEIC contractor number.. ****** to that.

I have a real dislike for niceic.. after one did a inspection and test on my sisters house, yet failed to find the spur of the one ring with two sockets and the shower on it :O No offence to decent contractors who take pride in their work.

however now i cant remove the service fuse without them knowing as we have spoken to them..

Can the form be downloaded off the net to have a quick look at?

you are asuming a great deal of organisation within them to think that they will remember your phone coversations with them if they even ever notice the fuse has been pulled

Assuming all RECs still operate in the same way, they will want a Completion Cert, which is available from them, used to get them from leccy board showrooms when you could actually have face to face contact, anyway they will send you one in the post on request. all you do is fill in name and address and sign to say the installation complies with regs, no need for Nic, ECA stuff. When they come to connect, they will look for main bonds, and also do not put your DB on the meter board unless there is no other place for it

Breezer it's good that you care, but you are calling me a fool which I am not. I've just counted up that I've pulled 6 fuses in my life and I did it in a responsible way by ensuring that it was impossible for anyone to have access to the exposed live parts.
Any electrical work can be dangerous, even just fitting a plug on an appliance.

Breezer, it would be better to say that its down to the individual, however in no way recommended.

I have pulled the main fuse before.. only on the newer cutouts though..

Ive also moved live tails which is worse..

My dad works for said REC, he said they should wear gloves and face / eye protection when fitting the fuse.. he said if you have ever had one go, you dont want to be infront of it, or have it in your hand.

If Pulling the Main Fuse I would suggest you isolate everything in site before replacing the fuse, and for fooks sake dont stick both tails in the wrong side of a henley block
