I have a Worcrester Heatslave boiler that I acquired when we moved into our house. For a while the pressure was low until I figured out how to top it up with water. It's been okay for a long time but now I notice that the pressure is rising a lot.

It's obviously filling up with water because when I open the valves on the radiator lots of water comes spurting out! If I empty some out the pressure goes down.

I am hoping it is something to do with my filler loop as it is permanently connected, rather than something more fundamental (and expensive!) wrong with the boiler. I have read on a lot of sites that the loop should be disconnected but I am worried that if I just unscrew the loop at both ends then a pile of water will rush out! There is only a valve at one end of the filler loop. Anyone got any ideas what I should do? As you might have gathered I am not experienced in this sort of thing!

What pressure have you been topping the system up to? If you're filled it to the point where the expansion vessel can take no more then the pressure is bound to rise significantly.

Initially I topped it up to 2 and then it worked okay for a long time but then I noticed the pressure rising when the boiler was off.

Turn the tap off, disconnect the loop and check no water is letting by.

Your should not pressurise the water beyond approx 1bar cold, 2 is unnecessarily high.

The pressure is designed to rise a little when the boiler is operating.

If the pressure is rising over time eg; when the boiler is not operating and the filling hose is disconnected, then you need a heating specialist.
