Help to buy replacement power adaptor please !

Hi folks

I need to buy a new plug adapter for my alarm panel. It’s a standard gsm alarm But sadly they don’t do this model anymore so can’t provide a replacement plug

as you can see in the pic, it’s a certain plug

Input 100-240v 50/60Hz
0.5A max

output 12v 1200mA

I can’t find anything that matches this :(

This is the closest I’ve found but it’s 500mA

not 1200mA

I don’t really know what A and V and mA means tbh but obviously want to replace like for like incase it damages the alarm panel .....

what do you mean by size of plug and polarity sorry?

I would advise against buying power bricks from marketplace sites like ebay, amazon marketplace, alibaba or the like. There are a lot of substandard units out there and no good way to tell the difference externally.

DC power connectors come in a variety of sizes, normally measured by the size of the center pin. They can also come in different polarities. The label on your power supply indicates that it is center positive (which is the more common arrangement) but does not make any mention of the size.

The most common in my experiance is 2.1mm center positive, but sometimes you run into the 2.5mm size (which is hard to distinguish until you try to plug them together :/) or smaller sizes on equipment that doesn't have much space.

I don’t mind where I get it from I just don’t want to damage the alarm by buying wrong plug

it’s a cheap gsm alarm from China. I didn’t know at the time a local guy fitted for me. Thought it was quite fancy lol. They sell on eBay I later found out. But Cos it’s old cant find anymore

If you have a set of drill bits they can be used as crude 'feeler gauges', try a 2mm and I'll guess it will easily drop into the centre hole, then try a 2.5 but don't force it - if it goes in the hole but you have to push it in then chances are you have a 2.5mm plug but if it doesn't go in chances are you have a 2.1mm plug.

Or try baring some 2.5mm twin and earth cable as a measurement gauge.

If you have a meter and a soldering iron, you could always get a power supply and whatever plug you need separately, then solder the corect plug on.

But that won't be much use telling the difference between 2.5mm and 2.1mm plugs when the T&E is under 2mm.

appreciate the links .

none of them have been an exact match but I’ll ring those companies and see if they can guide me in the right direction

maybe it doesn’t have to be exactly matching to the sticker / label of my existing plug adapter
 
You already know that so long as the plug fits, the voltage is correct and the current capacity is equal to or greater than 1.2 amps then you are fine. What more are you looking for?
