I finished my new walnut kitchen worktop with Danish oil and gave it about 6 coats in order to get the deep finish I required. However, it's been 3 weeks and it's still tacky - refusing to dry anymore no matter how much I increase the ventilation. I've tried using some methylated spirit to soak back some of the excess but it's still tacky and I don't know what to do! Advice desperately needed!

This happens when excess oil is not removed from the surface after 10-15mins.

Best bet is to scrape it off with a cabinet scraper, rub back with a scotchbrite pad then reoil the affected areas.

white spirit will help soften it but once it has oxidised (gone tacky) it needs a lot of scrubbing or scraping to get it off.

As Jason says, you are not supoposed to leave any lying on the surface
