Absolute beginner at painting here.

I decided I wanted to use vinyl matt on my walls and as I had been filling loads of holes on them, my partners cousin said it would be a good idea to undercoat the walls first. I went out and bought Armstead undercoat and after painting two walls in my living room with this, realised that its oil based and that I had bought the completely wrong thing  That will teach me to better research before buying anything!

Was hoping I could wait until they dry, give them a sand and then use the top coat I was going to use anyway but was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers on how to fix this?

Also what do I do now with the other two walls? If I now get a water based undercoat for these, will the end finish look different to the ones with the oil undercoat?

The finish may look different for a couple of weeks, but usually sorts itself out.
It's no different to using a stain block or damp proof paint.
I take it you are planning to use EMULSION now.
Undercoat and topcoat usually applies to gloss or satin that goes on the woodwork.
You don't normally call paint that goes on a wall as undercoat - you normally say 'first coat' (of emulsion). Or a diluted emulsion, for bare plaster or large areas of filler.

@sparkwright Cheers for the reply. Yes I will be using emulsion now, can I just go over the top of the undercoat with this?
I would give a quick light sand all over first, as you have suggested.
Some will say to let the undercoat harden for some time first before emulsioning over - but I fully appreciate you need to get on.

The oil content may prevent a water based paint from gripping properly, so if it contains white spirit, give it time to evaporate.

It can cause the wet emulsion to pull back when you try to put it on.
