I live in a newbuild. All magnolia walls. Slim hallway with w/c to the left and hallway wall to the landing on the right.

There was a dado rail on the right which was removed by previous owners.
They didn't do a good job with filling holes and painting over it. I had all that wall plastered. Looked good until it was dry and coated with a mist emuslion. Ripples in many places. I was not happy. I have noticed newbuild showroom houses have one wall wallpapered as you walk in. Maybe to break things up a little. A new trend maybe?

I need a matt wallpaper. Neutral but with a pattern. Is a vertically striped wallpaper going to hide these ripples better than a patterned paper? I know the wall may have to be lined first with 1400 grade lining paper.
So we are talking just the one longest wall as you walk into the hallway. I am trying to get some ideas flowing. I don't want to mess this up and I hate the fact I have to go down this route. But this could look nice anyway..couldn't it?

Please take time to click on this link at one idea of stripey paper I was looking at. Not sure if it is matt but I have sent off for some samples. Thanks

strippey or lined paper will bring out the worst in your wall and it will stand out like a sore thumb. go for a soft pattern with few straight lines in the design.

rub down the walls to the best you can, then horizontally paper liner the wall then apply paper in the normal way
